Monster of Rock - Foxboro, MA - 1988-06-12

This show was a hoot, but quite honestly I don't remember a whole lot about it...I remember being there, I remember seeing Dokken, The Scorpions, Metallica and Van Halen, I remember the drive home but really no details whatsoever. I am not even sure why I went since I was kinda over Metallica at that point, never liked Van Hagar and hated Dokken...Did I really go 130 miles to see The Scorpions play for 90 minutes? There was a girlfriend involved so that may explain it...

In poking around online for info about this show I came across a review from the opening night of the tour (at Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin) which appeared in, of all places, the New York Times. The review was generally positive for Van Halen and Metallica but not so for the rest of the line-up:
"There's an hour of Dokken, a Los Angeles band that tries hard to be the next Van Halen but at half-speed and one-tenth the wit. The Scorpions, alloted about 90 minutes, are a hard-rock show band from West Germany...they swing their guitars and dance in unison. They even form a human pyramid for a finale. Unfortunately, their lyrics are generic - ''big city night,'' for instance - to the point of unintentional self-parody...Kingdom Come...picks the Led Zeppelin corpus clean...Luckily, it only lasts about 40 minutes."

I don't remember Kingdom Come playing in Foxboro but maybe we got there late.
