The Great Quartet live at the Playboy Jazz Festival, June 19, 1982

McCoy Tyner on piano + Freddie Hubbard on trumpet + Ron Carter on bass + Elvin Jones on drums = The Great Quartet, recorded live at the Playboy Jazz Festival in the Hollywood Bowl on June 19, 1982.

OK, the line-up is terrific, but I have to say, Freddie's nowhere near in peak form here...'shaky' is the only way I can think to describe his sound...he's not terrible but I was really hoping for more. McCoy crushes it, especially during their blast through Monk's Rhythm-a-ning...the three tracks from the performance in circulation and available here (apparently from an FM source) are:

Rhythm-a-ning
I Can’t Get Started
Birdlike
