John Coltrane Quartet - New York, NY - March 19, 1965

There are so many versions of these sessions floating around and so much left off of the official release, One Up, One Down. The good news is that all of these dates from the Half Note in March '65 were broadcast so the various tracks have slowly emerged...

These two tracks are from the March 19 session (though were circulated for years as March 3). The line-up is 'Trane's "classic quartet" in peak post-Love Supreme form.

Apparently the entire set for this night consisted of Lonnie’s Lament, Chim Chim Cheree, and Impressions. These recordings appear to be the versions that circulated on bootleg vinyl in the late-70s as J for Jazz Presents John Coltrane (pictured here).

If you can score a copy, pay special attention to McCoy's work on Chim Chim Cheree and Garrison's bass solo to open Impressions...
